Five Ways to Reduce Stress in Business

Now that I've been in business for myself for the better part of three years, I often get asked what is the most helpful piece of advice I can give?   While there are thousands of books that can teach you marketing, day to day business operations, sales, dealing with clients, etc. - the most important thing I have discovered is thinking positive

Many of you will say, ‘that’s obvious, Mikon.’  And that may be true.  But implementing a positive mindset can be a tough challenge.

I originally wrote the below steps with entrepreneurs in mind, but I believe anyone in a stressful situation can benefit.

First let’s acknowledge the importance of a positive attitude.  For me, it keeps me grounded and focused on what I need to accomplish.  If I begin to stress my entire system begins to fail - mentally and physically.   We all know stress can be unhealthy, but it also is detrimental to your work.  You may begin making rash decisions, not think clearly, and project that stress to new or existing clients, co-workers, and your family.

So how do I keep myself from stressing?

1 Million Views and Counting!

I've been spending a lot of time learning how to optimize web videos to increase hits which I hope to translate into added value for my clients.  To put my money where my mouth was, I decided to take a demo reel for Haaksman Media (My production company) and build an online campaign for it.  The result was better than expected: over 1 million hits and a huge boost in rankings.

Here is the video:

It’s Been a Busy Summer

I’ve been keeping very busy the past few months and among the projects Ive had the fortune to be a part of are two shows for HGTV: You Live in What? and Cool Pools.  Both projects are through AMS Pictures here in Dallas.  I’ve been Field Producing segments on both shows and it has been a great experience.

Thin Line Film Fest Sponsor Reel

I had the pleasure of producing the sponsor Reel for the 2013 Thin Line Film Fest. Shot in one night using a couple portable LED’s and existing light, I wanted to evoke a noirish, romantic feel. Great help from fellow DPA members Lisa Joiner, Richard S. Blake, and Robbie Tullos. Here is the official version:
